Scarlett Johansson is considered the bombshell in Hollywood. She was born on November 22, 1984 in New York City. She was raised in a household with little money. Her mother, Melanie Sloan is from an Ashkenazi Jewish family and her father, Karsten Johansson is a Danish-born architect. She had an older sister, named Vanessa; and older brother, Adrian; a twin brother, Hunter and a half brother, Christian from her father’s first marriage.
She began her acting career in 1994 in the movie North as Laura Nelson. She was critically acclaimed for her performance in the film The Horse Whisperer in 1998. After that, Johansson achieved different film success, she starred in the cult film Ghost World in 2001 and Lost in Translation in 2003, these two films made her even known in the entertainment industry. Her performance in Lost in Translation made her to achieve a Golden Globe Award nomination.
Johansson also appeared in the movie Girl with a Pearl Earring in 2003 and was nominated for Golden Globes Best Actress. She was casted in the production of Mission: Impossible III, however, she dropped out because of her scheduling conflicts. Her role in The Island in 2005 earned weak reviews from U.S critics.
She also played a role in A Love Song for Bobby Long that earned her to have a Golden Globe for Best Actress Nomination.
Johansson garnered her fourth Golden Globe nomination in her performance in the movie, Match Point. She also starred in the movie Scoop, and Vicky Cristina Barcelona. She also played in the movie The Prestige and the summer blockbuster Iron Man 2. She received Tony Award for Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Play in her acting role in 2010’s Broadway’s revival of Arthur Miller’s A View From the Bridge.
Johansson debuted as a vocalist on her first album, Anywhere I Lay My Head on May 20, 2008. The album comprises mostly the cover versions of Tom Waits songs. She released her second album, Break Up in September 2009.
As for the actress past relationships, she started dating Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds in 2007. They were married in British Columbia on September 27, 2008 and purchased a $2.8 million home in Los Angeles, California. On December 14, 2010, the couple decided to be separated and Reynolds filed for divorce on December 23, 2010. The divorce was finalized on July 1, 2011. All their properties and earnings during their marriage were split evenly.
She criticized the Hollywood and media for promoting an image that causes unhealthy diets and eating disorders among women. She said that women must not force to follow unrealistic body images that the media promote.
